Credit Card Cash Advances
- One type of cash advance is withdrawing cash on a credit card. This typically involves a fee of around 3 percent of the amount you withdraw, but, more importantly, the APR can be much higher—25 percent, 30 percent or even 50 percent—than the APR for purchases.
Credit Card Checks
- Consumers should be aware that some credit cards checks—and, indeed, some balance transfer offers—are treated as cash advances and are subject to a higher APR.
Payday Loans
- Payday loans are a special type of cash advance, whereby a borrower writes a personal check to a lender for the amount he wants to borrow plus a fee, which can be equivalent to several hundred or even several thousand percent APR, depending on the amount borrowed. The lender then banks the check on the borrower’s next payday.
